Many new Amazon sellers come to me wanting to know how they can sell supplements on Amazon. This Health and Personal Care subcategory can be very lucrative for retail arbitrage, private label, and wholesale sellers alike. Over the years I have been selling supplements on Amazon for great profits!

Since I've been selling on Amazon for so long, I do not have a lot of category restrictions on my account. But, new sellers, like yourself, are initially gated from selling supplements on Amazon FBA.

Don't worry though, by the end of this post you will know exactly what you need to do so you can start selling dietary supplements on Amazon ASAP.

Requirements For Selling Supplements on Amazon in 2020

There was a time back in about 2017 when there was an Amazon $3,000 fee to sell supplements and dietary supplements. Fortunately, those days are behind us and there are just a few requirements that you need to meet in order to get approval to sell in this Amazon subcategory.

Amazon Seller Account Requirements For Gated Category Approval

  • You must have a professional seller account – the one that costs $39.99 a month
  • Your account must be in good standing – you can't have a lot of late deliveries or cancelled orders

If you've got both of those requirements in order, you are able to move forward with requesting approval to sell supplements on Amazon.

Amazon Dietary Supplements Ungating Requirements:

1. You must submit a qualified invoice to Amazon from a manufacturer or distributor. The document must meet the following requirements:

  • Dated within 180 days of submitting your application
  • Includes your name and address, matching the information in your seller account
  • Include the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor
  • Show the combined purchase of at least 10 units

If you are purchasing your supplements from a wholesaler, then you should be able to use your invoices to get ungated on Amazon.

If you are doing retail arbitrage or private label vitamins and supplements then you will need to make a wholesale purchase, just for the purpose of getting ungated to sell in the category. I know it's an extra expense, but it's worth being able to sell in the category!

For the wholesale order, you just need to make sure that the product you purchase is restricted in the dietary supplements category (you can check by trying to list the product and seeing if it is showing as restricted or not) and then purchase 10 units of the product. Depending on the cost of the product, this may run you around $100 + shipping costs.

When you create your wholesale account it is important that you use your name and address exactly as you have it on your Amazon seller account.

Once you receive your wholesale order, you will have the needed invoice and be able to move on to the next step of getting the live photos.

2. You must submit photos of the product you are applying with, and they must meet the following guidelines:

  • Contain the name of the manufacturer
  • Include product, trademark, or model number
  • Are live photos, not stock photos
  • Clearly display ALL sides of the product or its packaging

After you have received your wholesale order with your dietary supplements, you need to take pictures of the product you are using for ungating.

You will want to take one unit of the product and take a picture of all 6 sides of the packaging. Front, Back, Right Side, Left Side, Top, and Bottom. You'll upload all 6 of these images to Amazon during the Dietary Supplements application.

If you've been approved to sell brands like Nike on Amazon, you may notice that this step is different because it isn't required for all categories/brands.

If the manufacturer information is hard to see, take a close up of that information and include it with your live photos.

3. One additional document from the list below:

  • FDA Registration Screenshot
  • GMP Certificate (Good Manufacturing Practice)
  • COA – Certificate of Analysis
  • 510(K) Premarket Notification

This last requirement takes a bit more effort because dietary supplements are not required to get FDA approval.

To clarify, this is asking for the product's information, not yours as a seller.

You'll need to do some googling with those terms and the product name you are looking for documentation on.

Submit Your Application So You Can Sell Your Supplements on Amazon FBA

Once you have provided Amazon with all three of the things mentioned above, your documents will be verified and then you'll be able to sell dietary supplements on Amazon!

Overall, this process will take about 3-4 weeks.

Enjoy your new category!
